Zanesville's tournament run came to an end last week at the hands of Gahanna. The Lady Devils battled through the first half and only trailed by three at the break before slipping to the Lions 57-39 in a D1 District Semifinal. Zanesville finishes its season with an 18-7 record behind their 6th consecutive trip to a district semifinal.
Zanesville advanced to the district tournament after beating higher-seeded Mount Vernon 44-31! The Lady Devils' defense stepped up when needed, holding the Yellow Jackets scoreless in the 2nd quarter and without a field goal in the 4th. Kenzie Newsom scored all 11 of her points in the second half, with Karissa Weekley and Joslyn Goins each scoring 10. Zanesville will face either Gahanna or Hayes on Wednesday, March 1 at 7:00 at site to be determined.
The Lady Devils slipped past visiting Groveport, 38-27, to advance to the second round of the OHSAA state tournament! Zanesville's defense created 22 turnovers while senior Karissa Weekley finished with a game-high 19 points! The Blue Devils (#13) will now travel to Mount Vernon (#8) to take on a tough Yellow Jacket squad.
Zanesville honored their three seniors and picked up a non-league win against Wheeling Park, 52-40. The senior night ceremonies recognized Joslyn Goins, Destiny Johnson, and Karissa Weekley. Tasia Staunton paced the Lady Devils with 16 points in the victory. Following the game Zanesville the 13 seed in the Division I Central District.
Zanesville raced out to a 12-0 lead and never let Sheridan get close for a convincing 50-28 win. Kenzie Newsom dropped 15 points to help the Lady Devils reach their goal of going 3-0 vs local, non-league opponents. Rachel Cooke had 10 points for the Generals. The win pushes Zanesville to 13-4 overall.
Tasia Staunton's offensive firepower propelled Zanesville to a 36-24 victory over ECOL-foe Cambridge. Staunton scored a career-high 22 points on 10-11 shooting, and scored 12 straight during the second half. A stout Lady Devils defense forced 19 turnovers and held the Bobcats without a field goal in the fourth quarter.
The Lady Devils scored the final 10 points of the game to triumph over rival Rosecrans, 45-41! A resilient Zanesville squad was down four in the final minutes before coming back. Joslyn Goins would drill a go ahead 3-pointer with 1:40 left. Zanesville's win keeps them in 1st in the ECOL-Scarlet.
Zanesville senior Joslyn Goins fired in five three-pointers last week as the Lady Devils cruised past rival Tri-Valley last week 46-26. Hot-shooting proved to be the difference for ZHS who connected on eight shots from long-range. Kyndal Howe scored eight for the Lady Dawgs, while Gabee Bryan added six points and seven rebounds in the loss.
Zanesville remains perfect in the ECOL after taking down Dover, 37-27! The Lady Devils tallied nine steals in the defensive showdown. On the offensive side of the ball Kenzie Newsome paced Zanesville with 14 points, while Tasia Staunton had 7 points with 9 rebounds. Dover's Jordan Kiser led all scorers with 16 points.
Zanesville dominated Coshocton en route to a 77-19 victory. The Lady Devils scored the first 20 points of the game and held the Redskins to only two field goals in the first three quarters. Freshman Melena Moore led all players with 18 points, while Joslyn Goins and Tasia Staunton both scored 13.
